Impact of AI on UX

As design systems and genAI creates more automation and less reliance on humans to simply design patterns and assemble UI, it’s become more important than ever to promote and define the value of UX. Ideally, the UX process can be an innovation engine for creative problem solving the bots can’t do. UX is a process fueled by human intuition and empowers strategists to use an array of tools that identify usability issues that are creating business problems. Once we validate those issues through UX research, it’s up to us to demonstrate how to help organizations create a plan of action to meet those user needs and achieve clearly defined business and organizational results. That’s way too much to expect from an AI chatbot, even if it is powered by the more powerful learning language models we have now. Even the veneer of choosing a friendly voice from a choice architecture of options will disappoint people expecting a smarter, agentic assistant.
